R.L. Shawver

Ayers Petroleum Consulting

R.L. Shawver was born and raised on the edge of the coal fields of southern West Virginia. He graduated from West Virginia Wesleyan College with a degree in Engineering Physics.

He first worked in mapping and permitting in the coal fields, before spending 13 years at Cabot Oil & Gas — working on conventional assets in West Virginia (~5,000 wells) and unconventional Marcellus assets (~700 wells, 3,000+ planned). He built data pipelines, ran permitting operations, and created multiple software solutions.

He later worked with Smith Micro Software, improving billing operations — recovering millions in unclaimed revenue and protecting the company from legal and financial risk. In 2025, he founded FD Nerd to provide data and business consulting, and proudly serves Ayers Petroleum Consulting.
